Essential Details Regarding Breast Cancer

Cancer is a disease characterized by uncontrolled cell growth. Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among women in the United States, excluding skin cancer. Breast cancer is the second highest cause of cancer mortality among women and the top cause of cancer death among Hispanic women, despite a drop in breast cancer-related deaths over time.

Approximately 255,000 instances of breast cancer are detected annually in women and 2,300 in males in the United States. About 42,000 women and 500 men die annually from breast cancer in the United States. Black women have a greater breast cancer mortality rate than white women.

What Exactly Is Breast Cancer?

Breast cancer is a disorder in which breast cells develop uncontrollably. There are several types of breast cancer. The kind of breast cancer relies on which breast cells become malignant.

Breast cancer may originate in several breast locations. A breast consists mostly of lobules, ducts, and connective tissue. The lobules are the milk-producing glands. The ducts are tubes that transport milk to the mammary gland. Connective tissue (comprised of fibrous and fatty tissue) encompasses and binds everything together. The majority of breast cancers start in the ducts or lobules.

Breast cancer may spread beyond the breast through blood arteries and lymph vessels. The process through which breast cancer spreads to other body regions is known as metastasis.
